Southampton City Council is a Unitary Authority. The political composition of Southampton is follows:

SOUTHAMPTON GOES BLUE!

On 1st May 2008 Southampton Conservatives won an extra 8 seats on the city council, making the Conservatives the largest group and giving the Conservatives majority control of the city, breaking the stalemate of no over all control that has existed for nearly a decade.
